I just finished a tour that included a very special guest.
Harvey Pearson from Warrenton, Virginia was a left-waist gunner on a B17 in 1944. He flew with the 463rd Bombardment Group (Heavy) as part of the 15th Air Force out of Celone Field, Foggia, Italy. His first missions where over the oilfields of Ploiesti in Romania. He flew his 31st mission on D-Day over Belgrade, Serbia, they destroyed a bridge on the Danube. After his tour, he returned to the US to become an instructor. After the war, he became a court clerk in his home town, where he still lives.
It was a privilege to meet him and his family. It touched me especially that in a group of 34 he was the eldest and was travelling with his grand-daughter, the youngest member of the group.
